Aims of the workshop

  • To provide training opportunity to people who might otherwise be unable to secure employment.

  • To provide the above occupation an unstressed, safe and secure environment.

  • To advise and guide the users of the workshop in the acquisition of skills related to the work undertaken.

  • To provide support and advice to users on practical matters such as welfare rights benefits.

Means of fuelling the above objectives

The workshop provides occupation to a maximum of 12 people on a paid basis at any one time. A 'Wage' is paid at the rate of five pounds per week. Workshop users are expected to work for 20 hours per week, (five days at 4 hours per day).

A light lunch is provided for all workshop users. Paid users also receive reasonable travel expenses, (tickets must be presented for travel expenses to be reimbursed).

The work

The main work undertaken at the workshop is in the restoration of wooden furniture. Other work includes, cleaning, building maintenance, decorating and other practical work consistent with the well being of the workshop users, staff and the building.

Furniture restored at the workshop is sold to the public from the workshop showroom and our shop (Ebgbees) located at 115 Heaton Park Road, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 5NR, Tel:(0191)2766471. The workshop is open five days per week ring for an appointment.
